Expression Classes

NURSERY CLASS
2½ - 3½ year olds

Young children love to move. Through movement children develop their bodies, their minds, their confidence and their ability to communicate and express. The nursery class is based on the RAD pre-school dance curriculum which is designed to be a fun and exiting introduction to dance. They get to know their own bodies finding out the different ways in which they can move and express themselves.

BEGINNERS CLASS
3½ - 4½ year olds

As young children grow they begin to develop their
co-ordination and understanding of their own bodies. They are hungry for new and more challenging movements. The beginners class is based on the second stage of the RAD pre-school curriculum. They consolidate and extend the skills they have gained in the nursery class. They also get their first pair of tap shoes and enjoy learning to make (lots of) noise with them in different ways.

PRE-PRIMARY CLASS
4½ - 6 year olds

A fun and exciting mix of dance, pre-primarys learn ballet, tap and modern. We draw on the RAD and ISTD syllabuses to create a class with an emphasis on creativity and expression as children begin to learn the basis of dance technique. At the end of the year they will have the opportunity to take their their first ballet exam.

GRADED RAD BALLET CLASSES
Grade 3, 4 and 6

At our West Oxford branch we currently have ballet classes for older children. These are small, friendly groups of children who are of a good standard. We welcome new students from 8 years upwards with previous experience.

TEACHER TRAINING

We offer tuition and support with the ISTD teaching qualifications in imperial ballet, tap and modern. We guide student teachers through the practical side of the qualifications, offer them teaching practice and if necessary will put them through any major dance exams needed for entry requirements.

Please note we are not an ISTD registered dance centre and teaching students must be accepted on a teacher training course at a registered centre before commencing training with us by permission of their college. The classes are designed to compliment the training of a registered centre and make it possible for local dancers to take these qualifications despite the lack of registered centres in the area.

PRIVATE TUITION & SENIOR CLASSES

Private tuition with the principal is available for all higher graded and major RAD and ISTD ballet, tap and modern exams. We also currently have several classes running that would welcome newcomers with the relevant experience. These are intermediate and advanced 1 ballet, grade 6 tap and advanced 2 modern.

BOYS CLASS

We now have a brand new boys class for 9-14 year olds. This is a two hour class of ballet, tap and modern designed especially for boys (no girls allowed!). We provide our boys with a tough, energetic class working on strength and sound dance technique. We welcome keen beginners and those with previous dance training.

NEW SINGING CLASSES

Private singing lessons are now available with our new singing coach Nicola Smith. Nicola teaches a variety of styles including Pop, Jazz, Musical Theatre and Classical. All ages and abilities are welcome with classes tailored to individual needs. Students will have the chance to work on vocal technique and a varied repertoire, as well as audition technique, microphone technique and music theory.
